(Sun)burn, Baby, Burn

As summer starts, many of us are trying to get a tan. Although there are various lotions, sprays, and beds available to achieve that bronzed glow, some people keep it old-fashioned and rely on the sun for a tan. Whether poolside or on a chair in their backyard, thousands of people choose to lay out in the hot summer months and let the sun do the work for them. Anyone who’s had an attempt at a tan go horribly wrong can attest to the fact there’s a very small timeframe in between a tan and a nasty sunburn.

If you get a sunburn, there are ways to mitigate the pain and speed the healing process. One, wear loose-fitting clothing that allows your skin to breathe and reduce irritation. Two, take cooler showers so your skin doesn’t have any more heat on it. Aloe vera and other after-sun lotions are good ways to cool off, but applying them directly after being in the sun can trap in heat. Wait a couple of hours before applying any lotion so that your skin can cool properly. Although it might be tempting to scrub off the dead, peeling skin, this can lead to raw spots and possible infection. The skin will shed when it is ready, so be patient and let nature take its course.

Hopefully, a bad sunburn is the worst burn anyone ever experiences. Although irritating and infamously unphotogenic, these burns usually heal on their own without any lasting damage. The same can be said about other, minor burns. Small burns from irons or hot pans can leave a small scar which again, is usually not life-threatening. Larger burns are another story.
Large burns that occur as the result of a major fire or accident can be deadly. If they take up enough space, they may require skin grafts from other sections of the body. Other times, these burns can lead to death if the internal organs are heated past a certain point. Permanent damage to organs is a common result of severe burns, and many donated organs go to victims of fires.

Long-term treatment for burns is almost always expensive and time-consuming. Even with the best insurance, victims of burns end up with large medical bills that they struggle to pay off. The Law Offices of Jeffrey R. Caffee help victims of fires caused by the negligence of other parties. If you’ve experienced a severe burn at the hands of another party, contacting a law office can help! Getting the settlement that you deserve will allow you to have your medical expenses. An accident caused by somebody else’s negligence shouldn’t cause you pain and suffering. If it does, they need to be held accountable legally and financially. If a loved one has passed away as a result of their injuries, seek justice on their behalf so that that same accident won’t happen again to someone else.
